Materia
by Andrea Salustri is the winning project of The Sphere Megavote! This means that we know for a fact that Materia is granted €10.000, in addition to whatever sum will have been funneled through the Karmic Engine.
The Sphere presenting partners will also offer residencies and international presentations for Andrea Salustri, in Berlin and Vilnius 2022 and spring 2023. Salustri will also get the opportunity to develop the new version of his own artwork to be presented by Circo Sapiens, Lithuania and Berlin Circus Festival, Germany.
New artists will be granted €10.000 each to create free interpretations of Materia using their own disciplines.
After The Karmic Funding Cycle closes, mid May, we will open a new call to circus artists from all over Europe. The 2 winning proposals on how to create a derivative work of Materia will get €10.000 each on top of the funding coming from invested audiences engaging with the Karmic Engine.
The Sphere community will vote on proposals in October 2022.
In MATERIA, the properties of polystyrene take centre stage as different shapes of it are animated by wind, buckled by heat, or shattered into fragments. In this world the sole human presence takes the role of orchestrator, servant and observer, tending to a dance of tipping points, orbits and equilibriums, updrafts, eddies, rotations and drifts – a moving, murmuring universe. The door is open to you, then: another molecule, a thing among things, not a director but a caretaker of sorts.
Andrea Salustri spent four years researching the properties of polystyrene to create the piece MATERIA. The work is currently on tour.
“The creation of MATERIA has been a journey in which my juggling transformed into object manipulation and object manipulation transformed into material research. Progressively loosening control and following polystyrene reactions to new experimentations. Creating a digital space for MATERIA has opened new exciting questions about what it means to experiment with digital textures and the materiality of virtual artifacts.”
The Karmic Funding Cycle is still on!
As The Megavote has ended the $KARMIC evolutive NFT’s will now reach the next phase in their evolution. As a manifestation of having passed the community vote. This will be announced in a special newsletter that will be published any moment now.
As a contributor you can now either put more ETH on Materia to max the production budget for future iterations or you can make sure to push any other production past 10 ETH - to make sure that they will also be re-versioned and presented live. Some rumors are saying that one of the Seed Performances has already past 1 ETH.
All contributors will be able to claim our $KARMIC NFTs and will get shares of the fractionalized NFT The Sphere’s releasing this fall.
